Lab Technologist
Akros is hiring a lab technologist for the molecular biology laboratory at the National Malaria Control Centre. The work will primarily focus on determining the serological and genetic ‘fingerprint’ or genotypic characterization of a range of specimens. The project aims to generate molecular evidence to guide / inform malaria intervention and control measures in Zambia.
Responsibilities
- Accurately prepare chemical reagents / solutions according to formulae
- Maintain and operate standard laboratory equipment
- Perform analyses while adhering to SOP’s as directed
- Maintain detailed records of all work
- Analyze data generated and interpret results for presentation
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science qualification in life sciences or similar appropriate field (Essential)
- Minimum 2 years post-graduate experience in a research /diagnostic laboratory (Essential)
- Masters level qualification in life sciences or similar appropriate field (Desirable)
- Experience with DNA extraction protocols and genotyping for malaria (Desirable)
Personal Qualities
- Ability to perform tasks methodically at a consistently high level
- Excellent writing, computer, management and organizational skills
- Ability to keep records, with an attention to detail
- Capable of working individually and planning experiments
This position is available immediately, and subject to a probationary term, will be for a period of 6 months. Extensions may be available contingent upon performance and donor funding.
