SUMMARY
The Sr. Grants Specialist provides highly specialized finance/accounting-related services to the Nature Conservancy’s Africa Region. Preference for position to sit in Nairobi, Kenya; Arusha, Tanzania; or Lusaka, Zambia.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Sr. Grants Specialist provides highly specialized services in: financial analysis and reporting; accounting; and public and private grants administration for the Africa Region. S/he has a high level of knowledge and experience in international public funders such as USAID and multilaterals (i.e. GEF, World Bank, etc.). S/he administers and maintains finance/accounting activities in accordance with public funder guidelines and regulations and TNC policies and procedures and best practices in financial/organizational management. The Sr. Grants Specialist provides assistance to all levels of personnel in his/her specialty area. S/he responds to complex employee/management questions and problems based on advanced knowledge of the subject area.
RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE
- Works toward meeting the strategic priorities of the program by developing and coordinating tactics for approved plans and completing day-to-day tasks.
- Responsible for coordinating and managing assigned public awards made to TNC and subawards and private grants made by TNC to regional partners.
- Ensures programmatic commitments, TNC policies and procedures, public funder guidelines and regulations, financial standards and legal requirements are met and managed for compliance.
- Reinforces consistency in the organization’s policies and procedures and provides support related to public award administration.
- May participate in complex negotiations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or related field and 4 years’ related experience or equivalent combination.
- Experience with relational databases.
- Technical experience with grants award accounting issues.
- Experience, coursework or other training with applicable U.S. Federal government circulars (OMB Circulars A-110, A-122 and A-133), state and local regulations, and standard contract clauses.
- Experience using accounting and financial reporting systems.
- Experience with government regulations related to grants and contracts
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- Master’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or related field preferred.
- Excellent analytical and quantitative skills.
- Non-profit accounting experience preferred.
- Experience in manipulating, analyzing and interpreting data. Advanced expertise in Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of current trends in specific field.
- May require fluency in a foreign language to support global operations.
